With over 30 fantastic stores, an Italian restaurant, coffee shops and landscaped plaza, there's something at Marshall's Yard for everyone! Whether you want to shop until you drop, enjoy a leisurely meal or simply sit and watch the world go by, Marshall's Yard is the place to be.
Parking is 50p for up to 2 hours and just £1 for up to four hours, to be paid on arrival at the centre.
Our Timeline

1848
The Marshall's Yard site was formerly occupied by the Marshall family's Britannia Iron Works which was founded in 1848.

1914-1918
The company built steam engines, threshing machines and agricultural machines which were exported all over the world. During the First World War, the workforce grew to 5,000 to cope with the production of munitions.

1970s
Production continued at the site for a few decades in the post-war era but the factory eventually closed in the 1980s.

2005
Joint developers Prospect Estates and Dransfield Properties secured planning permission for the site in 2005, and the site was named Marshall's Yard by local schoolboy Alex Stephenson.

2006
Construction began on 1 January 2006 and would take more than a year to complete.

March 2007
The triumphal arches which provided the shopping centre with a dramatic pedestrian entrance were officially unveiled in March. They stand at over 10 metres tall, and weigh in excess of 23 tonnes.

Easter 2007
The centre was officially opened to much fanfare at Easter 2007.

Present day
The centre continues to thrive as a bustling hub of shops, hospitality venues and events attended by thousands of people every week and stands as a shining example of regeneration.

Our green initiatives here at the Yard include electric car charging points and good public transport links as well as bike racks and LED lighting which are all on timers. We also work hard on our recycling policy and have a zero waste to landfill record.
