Shop local this New Year at Gainsborough’s monthly Farmers’ Market!

3 January 2020

Shoppers are being encouraged to make 2020 the year to shop local and support the monthly Gainsborough Farmers’ and Craft Market next week.

Open between 9am-3pm this month’s market will take place on Saturday 11th January with a host of stalls filled with fresh seasonal produce as well as hot and cold food and drink.

January’s market will see a break for the majority of the regular crafters as they take the month off – ready to return in February. But the market will welcome all of the regular food traders as well as a few new faces.

The line-up includes many popular returning traders including Ellis Fruit and Veg, a family run business selling only the freshest and tastiest fruit and vegetables – perfect for a January health kick.

Also returning this month is Redhill Farm, one of the markets longest standing traders who farm, produce and sell free range pork, sausages, bacon and pork pies. Redhill Farm based just outside of Gainsborough have recently won a fine food ‘Oscar’ in the Great Taste Awards 2019.  Alongside winning the ultimate accolade The Golden Fork from the Midlands for their free-range shoulder pork, only one of 13 awards which is given out to over 13,000 entries.

The market will also feature traders including Pickles Preserves, Hepy’s Hog Roast, Mount Pleasant Windmill, Sarah’s Sweet Treats, The Fishcake Company, Capps Fish, and The Cheese Shop.

Newest trader to join the line-up is Kevin’s Hand Made Pies from Yorkshire. Kevin makes a range of meat and vegetarian pies including popular fillings such as steak and potato, chicken and ham, lamb, steak and ale as well as the more unusual such as pork and chorizo and game.

Live musical entertainment will be provided by Jonny Bilton who will be covering pop, rock and some originals in his own acoustic style.

The monthly market was relocated to Market Street earlier last year as part of a joint initiative coordinated by Marshall’s Yard with West Lindsey District Council.

Alison Shipperbottom, Marshall’s Yard Centre Manager, said: “We are looking forward to starting the New Year with our first Farmers’ Market which continues to grow with some new exciting traders booked on with us this month and next. We’re looking forward to a successful year with a packed programme of events and a growing selection of stalls.”
